View Full Version : Translation of ZABBIX GUI. Help needed!
Hi all,
Support of localization has been introduced in 1.1alpha11. It means that translation of ZABBIX GUI is very easy now. Look at frontends/php/include/locales:
de_de.inc.php en_gb.inc.php lv_lv.inc.php ru_ru.inc.php
So, in order to translate ZABBIX to any language do the following:
1. Create file ??_??.inc.php (for example, de_de.inc.php for German). Skip if this file already exists.
2. Translate everything in this file
3. Send it to me, so I could include it into the next release
Note that if something is not found in de_de.inc.php, ZABBIX will use translation of this particular phrase from en_gd.inc.php.
Many thanks!

Hi Alexei,
I almost finished the italian transaltion but I noticed that even if I translated the main menu (the section with \\Menu), language is still en_gb.
Am I missing something?
Ok, please translate Menu items, and add them commented into your file. I'll intergrate it afterwards.

Хорошее утро Alexei!
The Italian translation as promised:
"S_ITALIAN_IT"=>"Italiano (IT)"
Some translations will be modified later when the meanings of certain things will be clearer to me. For instance the word "trigger" is not so simple to translate, because in Italian (and probably also in Spanish) we have to use more than 1 word to explain some concepts that in english requires 1 word.
Especially when we are talking about Information Technology: all the World uses English for technical therms.
Spanish and Italian translations have been intergated. Many thanks!

fr_FR in progress! I live in Quebec, so people from France may cringe at some of my translations :D. The government here maintains a French-English, English-French online dictionnary which was very useful for some terms.
If my French cousins complain too much, just create a fr_CA version.

Hi all.
I've found that there ist already an de-de file for German but the content doesn't look very German... ;)
So I question wheter there ist still the need for a German translation or not? If so I'd like to do that for that great program! :)

Yes, it does! Take the de_de file and translate it to German. Your help is appreciated! Thanks.
If I have some spare time I might jump into Dutch / Vlaams (Belgium). How much time did the other translators take?

Bonjour,
see attached my current translation for zabbix 1.1alpha12.
Like others, I'm having problems using the same number of words than the English version. French just takes more words to say the same thing. :D
Suggestions and comments are welcome.
Regards,
Jonathan
Both German and French translations have been integrated into ZABBIX code. Thanks! :)
It will be officially available in ZABBIX 1.1beta1 (yes, next version is beta!).

About 3 hours to have an acceptable first version. It's probably gonna take an additional hour or two to improve after I get feedback from other users.

sv_se.inc.php translation started. Got problems with the items/trigger/alerts/alarm since for example alert/alarm is the same word when you look up the words so I have to come up with an acceptable swedish terminology.
Should the file be called the same as swedish locale (sv_SE) in java?
Expect the Swedish localization to take some time.
Please, take the very latest en_gb.inc.php from CVS before doing translation to Swedish.
I'm find in localize files variables begining like S_MENU_*. What is it ?

Hello.
Attached is the translation of Zabbix 1.1beta8 Web UI to Russian (Windows-1251 encoding).
It should be noted that not all of the messages used in Web UI are defined in locale files. (F.e. "System map", "No image" for background image in system map, etc)

Change the language of Zabbix to pt_br:
download the file: pt_br.inc.php.zip
unzip it:
unzip pt_br.inc.php.zip
cd /home/zabbix/zabbix/frontends/php/include/locales
cp <dir_source>/pt_br.inc.php .
cd ..
cp forms.inc.php forms.inc.php.bkp
vi forms.inc.php
-- make a find on vi for: $cmbLang->AddItem
-- put the line:
$cmbLang->AddItem("pt_br",S_PORTUGUESE_BR);
-- in the combo list
It's work.
Ps: The only thing that I could't fix .... in the combo box of languages it's showing S_PORTUGUESE_BR I think that have to modify other file. Someone can tell me which file is that ?
Thank's

Hey guys,
... and here's finally the latest german language file.
:-)
Regards from Stuttgart,
Julian
To show Portuguese (BR) on Menu I used:
vi include/locales/en_gb.inc.php
on line 961 (or search for S_JAPANESE on VI)
I add a line :
"S_PORTUGUESE_BR"=> "Portugues (BR)",
Good luck to everyone.

Zabbix 1.1.1 and looking forward to 1.4!
where i can give Russian translates for Zabbix 1.1.6 and Zabbix 1.4
In Profile (right upper corner) select your language. Russian is already supported :)
make it, but all menus and others elements also on english
i open /locales/ru_ru.inc.php - and see only english words ;).
Hmm, you're right. I have to check if we have a proper russian translation somewhere.
I created a new german version, it supports now 1.4.1.
Thx to the previous version to jpawslowski.
In the array, there are no entries for
The trigger depends on
No dependences defined
New dependency
Which are shown in the triggers.php, when you add a trigger.
Press here to disconnect/reconnect
Which appears, after the login couldn't also be translated.
Is it possible to add this manually?
I created a new german version, it supports now 1.4.1.
Thanks! It was integrated into pre 1.4.2.

Hello, zabbix developers.
A new japanese translation for zabbix-1.4.2.
$ wc -l ...
802 zabbix-1.4.2/frontends/php/include/locales/ja_jp.inc.php
1325 zabbix-1.4.2/frontends/php/include/locales/en_gb.inc.php
1325 ja_jp.inc.php-1.4.2
...For instance the word "trigger" is not so simple to translate...
I'd love if "trigger" would not be translated. It does make perfect sense in italian and other words will definitely lead in misunderstooding. For instance Trigger is left trigger in famous products as MS SQL and Backup Exec. Italian users are used to "trigger" word.
Mi piacerebbe se trigger non fosse tradotto. Ha perfettamente senso in italiano e qualsiasi altra parola porterebbe a fraintendimenti. Per esempio Trigger non è tradotto in programmi quali MS SQL e Backup Exec.
Are there going to be big changes in the template file from 1.4.x to 1.6?
I presume that people wanting to translate Zabbix now should use the template file from CVS?

I created a new Japanese version for 1.4.5.
And, I created a patch for following problems:
* In the en_gb.inc.php, there are no entries for some terms.
* There is duplicate term "S_LABEL".
* Web frontend is not updated when I update translation file.
Please see attachment for details.
Hello ZABBIX developers,
I created a new Japanese version for 1.4.6,
and My friend created a Korean translation for 1.4.6.
Please see attachment for details.
Here is the Polish translation, based on the file en_gb.inc.php included in Debian unstable package:
zabbix-frontend-php_1.6.2-1_all.deb
All the lines have been translated. File formatting has been improved too.

Hi Alexei Vladishev!
Can I ask you a question ?
At this moment, I use Zabbix 1.6.5 and I have to add a new language (finnish). In the datasheet (the Zabbix's Manual), it's explained how to replace a language by another, but can we add a language?
And, if we can't, how can I change the name of one language by the name of the language I want to use into the web interface [profile/language] ?
Because, when I replace the files "fr_fr.inc.php" (by another file with the same name but in another traduction) on the directory "public_html", it still displays "french (FR)" for example.
Regards,
Stephanie
i hope to allow alexei more time for other tasks ;)
as far as i know, currently you have to manually add new language to include/locales.inc.php file (see the list at the end of that file).
Administration->locales, watch for hints like "[?]" :)

Hello,
Yesterday I created a translation file with Zabbix (Administration/locales).
I downloaded this file, rename it and place it
into "/frontend/include/locales" like it was written in the web interface.
I added one ligne into the file "locales.inc.php" to create another constant ('fi_fi'=> S_FINNISH_FI,).
But nothing new appears in the web interface...
Then, I suppose it was necessary to do the same method in the directory : "/home/zabbix/public_html/include" because, it's thanks to this directory that my interface can be displayed.
I added the same translation file into "/home/zabbix/public_html/include/locales".
I added the same ligne into the file "locales.inc.php" in this directory.
Result :
A new constant is diplayed when I want to change the language.
But, an error appears...
"Use of undefined constant S_FINNISH_FI - assumed 'S_FINNISH_FI' [/home/zabbix/public_html/include/locales.inc.php : 86]
Can you help me?
Please consider sending your translation to support@zabbix.com. We will integrate it into 1.6.x and 1.8.
But, an error appears...
"Use of undefined constant S_FINNISH_FI - assumed 'S_FINNISH_FI' [/home/zabbix/public_html/include/locales.inc.php : 86]
i suppose string S_FINNISH_FI should also be added to corresponding locales - for example, see en_gb.inc.php around line 1640

I'm sorry, at this moment, it's a test : i don't have any Finnish translation. I'm in charge of finding how can we put a new language in your software. I have to test it and write an application note.
When i'll finish all my work (create a network, get back some equipment's data from my computer...), we will ask for our Finnish customer to translate the software.
When I will have the Finnish translation, I will send it to you but now, can you explain me how I can integrate a new translation file?

Hello developers,
I create Japanese transalation for Zabbix 1.7 web frontend.
Please see attachment.
thanks. committed in rev 7871.
Find attached the 'pt_br' translation updated to version 1.8.3, revision 11313.
Edson.
P.S.: besides VI and related, can somebody point me to a translation tool applicable to Zabbix language files?
thanks, committed. one change seemed a bit weird to me, maybe you could doublecheck it :
- 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM'=> 'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo \"Graph sum\"',
+ 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM'=> 'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo \\\"Graph sum\\\"',
also, it might be better to submit new translations on the tracker, they would be harder to miss :)
as for editing the translations... unfortunately, currently no standard solution like gettext is used, as a result it's tools also are of no help. suggested method would be to go to administration => locales in an existing zabbix frontend setup and use the form there to update the translation.
Hi...
As a help, I write a fast script that pull all keys ('S_*'s) (only the key names) from both language files (en_gb.inc.php and pt_br.inc.php), run a diff between both to grab new keys and over this resulting 'diff' file I iterate to substitute the keys by the corresponding lines from the original language files. Since I'm just updating the language file, I suppress the first tab from the new keys, in the edited 'diff' file. After 'patch'ing the target language file, I just have to look for "^'S_" to go directly to the new key line. The side effect is that the resulting patched file is out of order, when compared to the original file. This is due to grabbing only key names, ignoring comment lines.
It's ugly, I know, but it works... and as it's ugly that I asked for another way.
About 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM', sorry, but I don't know why it's this way. I applied above described script, copied the new version to ZABBIX front-end, reloaded the GUI and exported it through the GUI option. Is the GUI who created this 'messed' string. The right one? Should be:
'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo "Graph sum"'
Since "Graph sum" didn't have a really good translation (preserving semantic) I keep it in English.
Regards,
Edson.
P.S.: I'm relatively new to Zabbix. How should I submit to the tracker? :o

hmm, yes, it's a bit convoluted... let's hope that gettext or any other, better solution will be embraced in the future :)
btw, there's slightly experimental service to send an email whenever main locale has changed - and it also includes a diff. that way you can follow default locale updates and translate new strings as soon as possible :
http://groups.google.com/group/zabbix_translators

hmm, maybe. so did you escape doublequotes manually ? i suspect that might not be required, although i did not check yet
Since "Graph sum" didn't have a really good translation (preserving semantic) I keep it in English.
that's completely fine, if somebody comes up with a great translation, it can always be translated later
