The search function is a very nice way to find a host, a host group or a template. Just enter a search string and Zabbix will find and display all found resources in a very efficient way.
We are trying to optimize Zabbix front-end for very large setups (100K hosts, 10M items and triggers, etc), there will be many usability improvements in 1.8, the quick search function is just one of those.

I am very happy 1.6 is out. It seems to be a very successful release, which supports a number of highly anticipated features.
We have some issues with 1.6 though, all of them are being tracked and fixed in a very fast manner. There is a great chance that 1.6.1 will be ready within next week with all known problems fixed.
It's time to have some rest and start thinking about 1.8.
By the way, we are moving to a new office in October! More room to grow for ZABBIX...

I am glad that I visited the Fosdem 2008 event even despite the fact I had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. in order to be in Riga airport in time for the flight to Brussels.
It was worth it: I had a chance to meet members of the Open Source community and to listen to the lighting talks, 15 minutes long presentations on different topics, software-related mostly. Kees Jan Koster has made a very good job: his presentation (the reason why I was there) about Zapcat (monitoring of Java by Zapcat...

Just wondering if anyone is visiting FOSDEM 2008 in Brussels. I am considering going there, though not quite sure yet.
It would be nice to meet and have a chat with ZABBIX users there

Monitoring of a large distributed environment is not straightforward, therefore easy setup and maintenance of ZABBIX systems along with automatic recovery and high availability is critical for success. No one is happy about fixing hardware failures or suddenly corrupted database located hundreds of miles away.
That’s when ZABBIX collector may come handy.
What is a ZABBIX collector? The ZABBIX collector is a relatively simple piece of software, which retrieves performance...
