All hosts run the same Linux system with Zabbix agent, but they differ in the number of internet connections and local networks. Therefore, I created a common template with low-level discovery (LLD) for network monitoring.

The template also includes a dashboard for monitoring system and network status. System data is not a problem because it is based on regular items. However, all network data is based on item prototypes discovered through LLD.

The only suitable widget for displaying prototype items on a host dashboard seems to be Top items. It works with the correct item patterns and tags, but one thing bothers me: I prefer long, descriptive item names. Most single-item widgets allow a custom Name field, but the Top items widget does not. As a result, the list becomes difficult to read.

The workaround is to use shorter item names, but I think there is room for improvement. For example, Zabbix could support pattern-based name
mapping

Another issue is graph widget, it's lacking tags for data sets items.

Hi everyone,

I would like to share a new Capacity Planning module for Zabbix.

The module analyses historical monitoring data to help operations teams identify potential capacity problems before they become incidents. It can estimate when disk space may be full and indicate whether CPU or memory consumption is increasing to a level where additional resources may be required.

Main features

Analyses disk, CPU and memory utilization

Estimates the time until a disk becomes full

Estimates the time until configured warning or critical thresholds are reached

Uses several historical periods to identify both long-term growth and recent changes

Provide capacity planning report for hosts

Uses read-only access to the Zabbix API

The purpose of the module is to help operations teams work proactively, improve capacity planning or take actions to reduce capacity needs and reduce avoidable incidents caused by resource exhaustion.
Predictions are based on the historical data available in Zabbix. Results should therefore be treated as planning guidance and NOT a guaranteed forecasts. Sudden changes in workload, application behaviour or data growth can affect the estimates.

Hi,

Hope this will save some time to those struggling to make the Veeam B&R template work with Veeam B&R 13.

I've just installed the Veeam template from https://git.zabbix.com/projects/ZBX/...ads%2Frelease% 2F6.0. It looks like it hasn't been updated since 22/01/2024, well over 2.5 years.

I am on VBR 13.1.0.411, Zabbix Server 7.4.0 and a bunch of Zabbix Proxies ranging from 7.4.0 to 7.4.13 running on Ubuntu 24.04.LTS.

The instructions state:

 Setup
1. Create a user to monitor the service or use an existing read-only account.

I found that a read-only account will be denied access and results in the following error:

What fixed it for me is giving the user Backup Administrator in Veeam's Users and Roles dialog.

If the permissions necessary to query certain metrics are higher than Backup Viewer / read-only access then the documentation is incorrect and should be updated to reflect it. Otherwise the bug should be fixed. Veeam 13 has been out for quite some time.

Did not fiddle with various permission levels.

Regards,
Zoltan
