there are lately quite a lot of users appearing on irc and being pissed off about their forum registration getting 'stuck' or being rejected without a reason.
right now a user who attempted to register 'dandv' is quite furious :)

so, a few questions :
1. are all user accounts really hand-approved ?
if so, wouldn't a combination of captcha/post block work as well ?

2. if not, maybe it's worth finding active forum users who could help with moderation, as this issue is quite damaging the reputation of zabbix - those having such problems are quite vocal about it.

spammers have found this forum =\ Probably because of that.
As for the chaptcha, there are currently no decently working implementations which are not easly passed by bots.

1. Yes, all users are hand-approved. All funny (yes, *sex* *viagra*, etc ARE funny) login/domain names are rejected immediately
2. There is no way to figure out if a new registration is valid or not.
3. Rejected users (it happens) may always contact us by email or using the "contact us" form to be re-approved.

I'd just like to point out that this is the first product forum I've been on... possibly ever, that requires hand verification before posting is allowed. Somehow, pretty much every other project out there manages to make this work. I waited several days before I was able to post anything. I remember thinking "there's no way they're actually manually reviewing these... something must be broken".

I guess the point is... what is the hand verification process doing that can't be handled by an automated process?

I got approved today (Monday). I think I registered Saturday night. I didn't think the wait was too much of a bother.

If some people are falling through the cracks and getting rejected, I'd suggest a public forum at the top that anyone can post in and ask for assistance.

Just send us an email, re-register and you will be approved instantly. The rejects is a result of funny registration email addresses or domain names in 99% of cases.

What about allowing some members of the community to help moderate that?

To me, it doesn't seem like the "issue" is that it's to big of a workload, but rather people signing up with some weird information, which makes them look like spam bots. Letting other people moderate who get accepted or not doesn't change that.

True, but it does free the main Zabbix admins from that function, thus allowing their valueable time to be more useful elsewhere.
