Can I use 1.8 zabbix proxy with 1.6.5 zabbix server ?

I would like to have web monitoring done from zabbix proxy.

I can see that this feature is not available in 1.6.* versions, seems 1.8 supports it.
(as per http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13118&highlight=web+monitoring )

Can I use 1.8 zabbix proxy with 1.6.5 zabbix server ?
(i can not migrate my zabbix server to 1.8 now)
