Has anyone here had any experiences monitoring the Actiontec GT701-WG that Qwest uses for most DSL connections?

It's modem support SNMP. Use it.

I think the Actiontec build supports SNMP, I think Qwest may have disabled it. How can I test, and how do I discover which SNMP functions I can use?

I tried the SNMP template, but all of the functions were not supported.

Well the web interface doesn't mention SNMP, which doesn't mean it's not there. Still I can't configure the community name or anything...

Could you connect to the modem via command line?

You can telnet in. It runs linux, and has snmp config files but it looks like the executable has been deleted.

It also uses UPNP, which you can't disable. I don't know much about UPNP, but it allows you to change the firewall settings without any authentication  .

Right now I'm just doing simple checks on ports 80 and a ping check. What I'm interested in is traffic information, and iptables log stats.
