Hi,
First, I really like Zabbix. I've been looking for a "combination of Nagios and Cacti" for a long time and Zabbix is that and more.

I have a couple of suggestions:

1) it would be great to be able to take a host and convert or copy it to a template (including the linkage to other templates). I have several stand alone machine that perform a specialized function, but eventually I will probably have a cluster of such machines. It would be nice at that time to simply convert the monitoring configuration of the stand alone machine to a template.

2) Sometimes I create several items for a host or template, and realize that they really belong in a different template. Right now, I just have to delete them and re-create them in the desired spot. It would be really cool if I could just move them.

Keep up the great work! Zabbix RuleZ

I'm still on an older beta version so this might not be applicable to the latest version, but I believe there are ways to accomplish both of these tasks.

Create your new template, then select "Add items from template" to copy all items to your new host.

I believe you can just update the item and change the host.

Hopefully these functions still work the same for your version.

Thanks for your suggestions...

Create your new template, then select "Add items from template" to copy all items to your new host.

This simply links the new template to another template, creating a chain. I use this to create chains of templates going from general such as "basic_freebsd" to more specific like "webserver."
But, don't see how this can be used to turn an existing machine into a template.

I believe you can just update the item and change the host.

Again, I don't see what you're talking about. In the Items config page, I can pick an item associated with a template or host, but there is nothing in the Item configuration to change which host/template it is associated with.

Thanks again for your suggestions. It looks like there are some differences between our versions.

No problem. It does appear things have changed between our versions. Hopefully I'll have time to upgrade one of these days...

I am missing the same thing. I think that the best solution to this problem would be to create list of items as the beginint of the tree. Then we would be able to add single items to host or templates. Templates would be used for hosts.
The copy feature would be greate for templates even for items if we need to change only something. Realy miss it. Hope these features would be implemented ASAP otherwise it is very hard to configure bigger network with a lots of customers who use different OS and different features.

Anyway I use Zabbix only 5 days but it is greate.

Thank you

Thanks all for the excellent suggestions. We will try to implement it, I cannot give you ETA though.
