This is my first post in this forum. I've been monitoring this project for some time now and I really like it. Alexei is a real professional.

Before finding Zabbix, I was planning to use Nagios since I know people who use it. The problem was that Nagios is written in Perl, yak! I want to know how Zabbix is compared to Nagios in terms of features? Are there features found in Nagios but not in Zabbix?

I resell web servers from different data centers. I want to setup Zabbix on one server and create accounts for my clients to allow them to login and do their monitoring and stats. I wont configure servers inside Zabbix, I want my users to do this as some of them have many servers. Can I do this with Zabbix?

TIA

fargo,
I have used both nagios and zabbix. I find zabbix to be much better and more powerful. Some things that I would list as zabbix benifits include:

1. Zabbix uses a DB backend, not text files for config, history, etc.
2. Native agent for many platforms, especially win32 (this is what sold me)
3. Better aggregation of data, be it graphs, maps, current values, etc.
4. Very extensible. I know nagios is also, but i never found it that easy to work with.

I cant think of anything major that zabbix is missing from nagios, but if there is something you know is in nagios, but cant find it is Zabbix, ask. Maybe someone knows, or maybe Alexei will impliment it.

As for part II of you question, zabbix should most defiantly be able to do this. I think the current system would be able to do this, and I believe the permissions system is slated to be upgraded/modified. Or, you could always run multiple instances of zabbix with a different backend DB for each client. That should work for you too.

Thank you cooper. I'll install Zabbix and try to do that. I'll update this post.

Ok, I installed Zabbix alpha-5. Now, I have difficulty giving permission to users :( What I want to is to allow users to read-write and add their hosts only. I could not figure out how to do it. Any help please?

Alexei, I hope you can give a hint on this from London :)
