In the Zabbix documentation it mentions that the UserParameters should not take too long - however the only way to retrieve true CPU %idle on a server in an interval such as the last 10 seconds seems to be running sar or mpstat for a few intervals and grabbing the average or last value. (or running top for a few intervals).

Is there a way (NOT load which smooths out the peaks) to retrieve idle% CPU on a Linux 2.4 kernel using a light-weight very quick methodlogy?

Thanks,
Matt

Yes! You may use agent from ZABBIX 1.1 to get this info.

I am trying to do accomplish the same thing... however I am on Zabbix 1.0 (couldnt get 1.1a10 to work on my server). Can I install the 1.1 agent anyway? Any other possibilities?

Thanks!
