How can zabbix monitor clients without installing agents on the clients side. I've used Groundworks and it monitored clients without installing agents on them.. Is this possible on zabbix?

Yes, it is possible. ZABBIX perfectly supports monitoring of agent-less environments using simple checks (icmp ping, tcp ping, ftp, ssh, telner, web, whatever).
