    New zabbix icons set

    Hi all,

    UPDATE 19/04/2009

    I just made an icons set to replace the very old fashioned zabbix icons used to create the maps

    download from the zabbix wiki

    The package contains both 48 x 48 px icons (perfect to use with the standard zabbix maps's grid) and 128 x 128 px icons, if you would like to have a very clear display (but as the icons are bigger than the map's cell, it requires a little work to arrange them correctly).

    (btw : it would be nice to add a feature to re-dimension the cell's size )

    All the icons come from png / svg available freely on the web (mainly trough the GPL license).

    The icons were designed mainly for my use (I added the virtual servers icons to make the difference between physical servers and the virtual ones for example...) but I'm sure they will be suitable for anybody.

    P.S : I don't have much time for myself, so I won't work regularly on these, but I'll try to integrate them as best as I can with the current custom icons set provided through the wiki.

    The icons names are (almost) based on the wiki's rules for icons set, I added the following fields :

    <size>_(e|g|i)_<Name>_(off|on|unknown|disable)

    If you want to do a batch-upload instead of having to add manually all the icons, look here

    utility script to install icons

    Hi Cray,

    UPDATE 20/04/2009

    I installed wonderful icons which you made. I want to install all icons, because they are all nice. So, I made a script named "make_img_insert_sql.sh" to insert mysql database. Sorry, it's mysql only. This script helps installing images into "zabbix.images" table by making SQL file;

    Code:
    how to install icons)
    1. download zabbix_icons_set_generic.zip and make_img_insert_sql.sh.gz

    2. extract and make SQL file
    $ mkdir $HOME/icons_new
    $ cd $HOME/icons_new/
    $ unzip $HOME/zabbix_icons_set_generic.zip
    $ ls
    128  48
    $ cd
    $ gunzip make_img_insert_sql.sh.gz
    $ sh make_img_insert_sql.sh
    Usage: make_img_insert_sql.sh <dir> <start_imageid>
    $ sh make_img_insert_sql.sh $HOME/icons_new/48 100
    ....................................................................
    completed
    $ mv my_images_mysql.sql my_images_mysql_48.sql
    $ sh make_img_insert_sql.sh $HOME/icons_new/128 200
    ....................................................................
    completed
    $ mv my_images_mysql.sql my_images_mysql_128.sql
    * just in case, you should confirm the SQL file
    $ vi my_images_mysql_*.sql

    3. execute SQL file
    $ cat my_images_mysql_48.sql | mysql -u root -p zabbix
    Enter password:
    $ cat my_images_mysql_128.sql | mysql -u root -p zabbix
    Enter password:
    Known_bugs:
    I don't know why only 3 icons cannot be inserted into database correctly in my environment. Maybe, my script is something wrong.
    However, you can install with web browser by re-uploading manually on Configuration/General Window if you have the same trouble.

      Hello Cray

      Thank you for your work and providing this icon set. I couldn't check it out at the moment, but will give it a look later.

      Could you upload the icons to the wiki as well ? I have problems with sharing sites where you have to wait 1 minute to get to the next page and the next link is again a 1 minute timeout... (Ok, I'm using FF with NoScript).

      If you like, you can check my icon part at:

      http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...:icontemplates

      It's a little bit outdated, because I haven't found any volunteers which has been interested in working on it. But here, we users can help out ZABBIX without a lot of programming experience.

      Sincerly

        I know zabbix-wiki is good help for new comer. However, I have some considerations to use zabbix-wiki. Those are as follows my problems.
        • I cannot get update information(e.g. rss feed) about wiki.
        • I don't know how to build up into wiki about forum's knowledge, faq, troubleshooting and so on.
        • I don't know where we discuss about wiki's contents.
        • I don't know wiki's goal, road map, vision for users.
        • I don't know what wiki's administrator hope to do to volunteers.

          Hi all and thank you for your feedbacks

          @t2y : thanks for the script, it is indeed useful to do a mass-upload easily

          @Andreas : Nice to see someone else working on new icons set too !
          I will have a look at your work during my free time and eventually contribute to it.

          P.S : A wiki is great for many reasons, but I must agree with t2y, when he says a link is missing between Zabbix forums and Zabbix Wiki

            That's right. You have to create a Thread with a link and update it by hand.

                  When using the shell-script, it says it cannot find *.{png,jpg,gif}

                  (nice icons btw)

                    Hi BlackRabbit,
                    I think you mistook the directory as argument for script.
                    It have to give parent directory which has icon files(png|jpg|gif).

                    Code:
                    e.g)
                    # ls icons_new/48 | head
                    48_g_access-point_disable.png
                    48_g_access-point_off.png
                    48_g_access-point_on.png
                    48_g_access-point_unknown.png
                    ...
                    # sh make_img_insert_sql.sh icons_new/48 100

                      What would be really nice to simplify the maps's creation into Zabbix, would be to define "icons group" :

                      - actually, when adding a host to a map, we have to manually select the four icons for the different states (ON / OFF / UNKNOWN / DISABLE)

                      - An icon group would be like selecting a type of device, an the 4 icons would be automatically selected for the different states

                      would love to see that feature in 1.8

                        Thanks for sharing the icon set, Cray. They are really nice. Converted our NOC display maps over this week and got compliments from the management.

                        I agree an icon group would really help simplify map creation.

                            t2y,

                            I still have the problem with that parent directory.
                            It just keeps saying that there are no png files in that directory.

                            Can you help me solve the problem?

                            My regards,

                            Tim

                              Anyone figure it out?
