Distributed Monitoring

My company is researching a monitroing solution that needs to be distributed across multiple networks. I really liked what I see in regards to Zabbix but I can't find any information about running it in a distributed model. Since the word distributed can mean many things let me explain what I am needing.

We have remote locations that we would like to monitor. Lets say site A,B,C,D and E. We want to have each one of these sites monitored independatnly in case one goes down it does not affect the monitoring of the other sites. The additional requirement for this project is that we need to have a centralized location for viewing the reporting and alerts generated by the system. We also need a central location for configuring the monitors. For example we would like a central site called Z be the central location for storing all data. This way we can login to a "master" and configure each site and view trending from each site but still have the independant monitoring sites.

Is this possible with Zabbix?

I don't believe this is possible with the out of the box version of zabbix, maybe somebody has customized zabbix and would be willing to share?.. anybody?

Groundwork monitor

This sounds like it might be possible with groundwork monitor, which is basically nagios with a lot of automation and defaults. The drawback I'd found is that it doesn't offer much in the way continuous performance monitoring of CPU load, CPU % used, memory usage, etc. Seems like the closest it comes is graphing how many times the level of load, etc. was low, normal, critical, etc., which results in a pretty choppy, step-like graph.

ZABBIX 1.4 will support distributed monitoring. First beta of the functionality will be available in November this year.
