    Icmpping not working

    Hi,

I am a new user for zabbix. I am managing a MAN network with over 100 switches span across a pretty big geographic areas that I want zabbix to help me monitoring them. I cannot use zabbix agents since they are not computers that I can load the agent. In this case, I can only use SNMP as my agent.

The first thing I am setting up are simple checks using ICMP Ping to make sure they are up and running. However, I find the pinger doesn't seem to be working because the following symphtoms.

    1) After I set up the monitoring item and triggers, I look at the Monitor->Last Data column and there are none shown.

    2) I try unplug one of the testing switch and the trigger are not activated.

When I look at the manual for solutions, I found under the Configuration file session, under the server configuration, Location of the Fping parameter. It mention about "It must have setuid flag set". Could anybody tell me what does it mean and where can I se the setuid flag. Fping is installed at the default location.

Thanks ahead for anybody who can help.

    Hi

Try to change setuid on fping executable by command:

    "chmod a+s fping"

    Areg

with the set-uid-flag, a user gets the user-id of the owner of that file.

so if fping has rwx for root and nothing for group and others, and it belongs to root, noone (except root) is allowed to use fping.
With the "chmod a+s fping" command (run in the directory where fping is), "others" get the userid of root (because he is the owner) when they want to use fping.

Hope that was understandable. If not, ask google!

      PS: Welcome here!

Did you bypass icmpping at first hand, and try SNMP first?
