    Adding user rights, how?

    Hi,

I'm on 1.6.1 and I'm trying to work out how to modify the rights to user accounts? It's very different from the 1.6 Manual.

I can see everything listed on the right in the Deny boxes, but can't work out how to transfer anything into Read Only or Read Write.

    Thanks,

    John

User Rights functionality is broken in 1.6.1

According to the manual, section 4.16.2, different user types should give me the following:

ZABBIX User: access to Monitoring menu only.

ZABBIX Admin: access to Monitoring & Configuration, with Read-Write access to all host groups by default.

ZABBIX Super Admin: access to Monitoring, Configuration and Administration, with Read-Write access to all host groups by default.

But this is not the case at all. If my user account type is ZABBIX User, then I have no rights. Everything is pushed into the Deny boxes and highlighted in red.

Same for ZABBIX Admin, and neither allow me to see anything. If I try and get to dashboard.php I just get "ERROR: No Permissions". The guest account is also crippled in the same way. I can only get in and do anything if the user type is "Super Admin".

Surely this can't be right. Is this a bug?

John - try controlling the rights at the group level. Put your user either into an existing group, or create a new group and put them in it. Then through Administration --> Users ... select User Groups from the dropdown... click on a group name and add rights there. Those rights should then propogate to the individual users of that group.

You can't add or remove rights when looking at single users.

Thanks for your help. That worked a treat

One of the requirements I have is for individuals, or groups of individuals to be able to monitor and manage their own areas of responsibility, unlike the the monolithic (old) Mon tool we have at the moment which has to be hand crafted by just a couple of people for everything. So this is perfect.

I hope (pray) that Zabbix release an up date version of the Admin manual soon. That's what's causing me the most problems. I feel like I'm stumbling around in an unfamiliar room with all the lights switched off at the moment.

Thanks for your post! The Manual is wrong here, it explains old behavior of 1.4.x, ZABBIX 1.6.x works differently! The Manual will be amended asap.

            This thread is most useful!

After creating a new user, I found that the user would see the Welcome message, and nothing else! In fact, there was no menu for the user to use! This was most frustrating. If I downgraded a user to "Type 0" via Mysql value hacking, I got the curious message "not enough permissions". Seems this message should appear when the user has no hosts, actions, or menus available to him/her.

it wasn't obvious how to change the permissions in the first place, too.

IMO it should be better documented, that user rights can only be edited via the group permissions.
