PATCH: fixes for graph period dropdowns

The base period for graphs was resetting after being modified as discussed here and here.

This patch should address the issue, applied against the current cvs 11/17/2005.

this will also retain the current period if you set one on a screen with lots of graphs and then zoom in on one rather than resetting to 1h. Seemed like a good quality of life feature.
