GIS & ZABBIX: Geographical position for hosts and vectorial maps?

    Hi all,

I recently had a stange yet funny suggestion from one of our customer, using ZABBIX: why don't we use a GIS to serialize hosts positions? This way, we could have funny vectorial maps !

    See ya in ZABBIX 3.0?

    Cheers,

    Google Maps API

I guess a quicker way to accomplish this is to use the Google Maps API. There is allready a php class http://www.phpinsider.com/php/code/GoogleMapAPI/ written for and could easily be included in Zabbix.

    Greetings

This depends what you need ... I'm using bitmaps from

as background images, which are fine for my purposes.

Of course, vector data does have advantages (eg. scalability), so SVG might be interesting when a sufficient number of browsers will support it sufficiently well, but IMHO using a full-featured GIS would be overkill in most situations.
