I found out that after upgrading to zabbix-1.1.6 the sms alerting feature doesn't work anymore. I suspect that this may depend on the GSM modem.
Anyway, get this patch which fixes the "circular" buffer in sms.c which seems to be causing the problem.
Use it in your own risk.
