upgrade to 2.4

We want to upgrade our 2.2 server and proxies to 2.4, but I was told a 2.2 proxy is not compatible with a 2.4 server and vice versa.
This means we need to upgrade our server and all our proxies in one move, which is a huge task in our case. Is there a solution to do this? Anyone who has experiance with this?

I recently upgraded my server from 2.2.1 to 2.4. The proxies are still 2.2.1 and there is not problem.

Confirmed with Zabbix server 2.4.1 and 2x Zabbix proxies 2.2.5 .

Do you referring active or passive or even both connection types for proxies?
