This document contains the release notes for ZABBIX version
1.1beta7. The following sections describe the release in
detail and provide late-breaking or other information that
supplements the main documentation.
Early introduction of new templating is the main goal of
this release. No feature freeze yet.
What's New
:: New concept of host templates
A host can be linked to one template only. Templates can be
recursive. For example, Unix->Oracle->Host. The Host will
have items, triggers and graphs of both Unix and Oracle.
:: Improved housekeeper
ZABBIX GUI deletes all information (apart of history data)
immediately. Housekeeper takes care of sequential removal of
trends and historical data. No more status 'deleted' for
hosts.
:: GUI improvements.
Added group operations for actions. Actions can be enabled
and disabled. Hostname added to graph names.
:: Value mapping.
Mapping between integer and string value can be configured
to have readable information. For example, one may want to
configure 0=>"Available", 2=>"Not available" for host
statuses. The value mapping is also used in notification
messages.
:: Support of #N in parameters of trigger functions.
#N is supported for functions max(), min(), avg(), delta()
and sum(). #N means number of recent checks. For example,
sum(#10) will return maximum of last ten values.
:: Fixes
* Fixed initial update of host statuses.
* Fixed navigation bar for Screens.
* Fixed incorrect groupid error for actions.
* Fixed fixed evaluation of {IPADDRESS}.
* Speed improvement for proc.num of Tru64.
* Other fixes.
What's next
Feature freeze will be announced after release of ZABBIX 1.1beta8.
Last call before feature freeze! Please use ZABBIX Forums to
inform ZABBIX Development Team about any issues found in the
recent betas. Also let us know if you want some missing
features to be implemented.
Installation and Upgrade Notes
Installation
See the Installation Guide
http://www.zabbix.com/manual/v1.1/install.php for full
details.
Upgrade
In order to upgrade from previous release, execution of
database patches required. See Upgrade Guide
http://www.zabbix.com/manual/v1.1/config_upgrading.php for
full details on upgrade procedure.
Pre-release testing
ZABBIX Server
ZABBIX Server has been compiled and tested on the following
platforms: Ubuntu Linux, AMD64, kernel 2.6.11
ZABBIX Agents
ZABBIX Agents have been compiled and tested on the following
platforms:
* AIX 5.2
* FreeBSD 4.11, 5.4
* HP-UX 11.00
* Linux 2.6.11 (Ubuntu)
* NetBSD 2.0
* OS/X 10.2
* Solaris 5.9
* Tru64 5.1B
Note that agents are available pre-compiled from
http://www.zabbix.com/download.php. The agents are compatible with
ZABBIX v1.0 and all releases in 1.1 series.
Use in production environments
ZABBIX 1.1beta7 is BETA software, therefore we cannot
recommend it for immediate use in production. Although
tested throughout our release cycle, this release introduces
many changes and does not have the benefit of use in
production environments that ZABBIX v1.0 has and therefore
should be treated with the same level of caution as a new
product.
