    Agentless monitoring

I have read all the threads I can find about agentless monitoring and I cannot find the answer to this question.

I have auto-discovery working, I have hosts added, added to a group, and linked to a template all automagically. The only service I have is a simple check using icmpping. The hosts states are listed as "unknown". I need to know how to use icmpping to list the hosts as up.

I am in the process of learning Zabbix because it seems to be more scalable than Nagios and the distributed monitoring seems to be a better fit for what we are doing. I will be adding clusters of 70 nodes each and need to be able to set them up to just use a ping to see if they are alive for the initial testing. We will be writing an external check to parse other data for the full solution but I need this to work for my proof of concept presentation. In the end this system, distributed of course, will be monitoring and alerting for ~5000 nodes.

    Any help would be appreciated.
