Hello Everyone,
I set up Zabbix 4.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 and so far everything has been good. I set this up in order to monitor our server infrastructure and have been using the official iLO and iDRAC template that I found on this website. Its been great as it creates all the applications and items as well as triggers of which I have been fine tuning for some of our hosts. These are not agents installed on the servers, these are all done through their respective IPMI. This is achieved with polling the hosts.
The issue I am having is for traps. I currently set up our traps to be handled by the Zabbix perl script (zabbix_trap_receiver) and its has been receiving traps successfully ( confirmed by having output to the /tmp/zabbix_traps.tmp). So what I am now seeing is that I cant find that information on the Zabbix frontend. It is not reporting anywhere that I can see and it does not show up in the Monitoring > Latest Data tab.
I believe I will have to create a new template just for these traps. There are obviously hundreds of OIDs so creating Keys for each trap sounds daunting and overwhelming. I want to know if I am looking at this right and/or if there is a different way to accomplish this. I was thinking of re-writing the template but that is also overwhelming as I have a basic understanding of XML but definitely not that comfortable with it.
I would appreciate any advice on how to tackle this issue.
Bonus help
Also have a hard time understanding how the frontend is able to translate OID > Keys but the server itself doesn't have any MIBs? I'm assuming the template creates the keys by simply translating it in the template itself while the server does not ( output from the trap receiver show OIDs only). Do I simply add the mibs to the /usr/share/snmp/mibs directory and the trap receiver assign it a key automatically?
Thanks!
DannyG
