    Agent active checks

    Hello,

I have zabbix version 2.2.5 on the server and the agent.

On the zabbix server I am using a process discovery template which asks the agent to send back a list of all processes currently running on the server, the processes are then checked for both cpu and ram usage, the interval is 15 seconds to make the graphs more accurate.

The problem is that there are about 600 items that need to be checked so I had to use the maximum number of agent forks (100) in order to get the data. But even then the agent could not keep up and data was taking 30 sec instead of 15sec to be reported.

One solution that I wanted to try was a switch from passive to active checks, since everyone says that active checks give more performance. After I made the switch I noticed that there was only one "active checker" process which collects the data, and it was doing about 1 item per second which is 100 times less than when I had passive checks enabled. Does anyone know if this is just the way it is and active checks are only supposed to be used for a small amount of items?
