Hi guru's,
We have a network of around 6000 devices located at around 356 sites.
As part of our support strategy all our devices share (per type) a single config and obtain their ip settings through dhcp.
The whole purpose of this single config approach is to make it possible to easily and quickly replace faulty devices without the need to personalize each device i.e. set the sysname.
We are in the process of installing zabbix in our network and although we really see the benefits, the biggest issue now is the fact that it appears Zabbix identifies hosts only by sysname (obtained through SNMP). As the sysname is the same per device type and we use dhcp we have no way to uniquely identify the devices.
We where hoping to use the devices mac address to uniquely identify the devices but this seems not to be part of the default zabbix solution.
Is there anyway to achieve the desired results. i.e. lists and discover devices by their mac address rather than sysname. This way we can see statistics on individual devices allthough their ip address might change.
