    OpenVPN Link Monitoring

    Hi all,

We are running a MikroTik Cloud Hosted Router (CHR) which has a large number of VPN connections. In essence, it is running as a core router, connecting a number of remote portable routers together with OpenVPN. With the Zabbix MikroTik template, it sees the OpenVPN connections as interfaces which is great as we want to monitor them, get link down alerts, see bandwidth etc. However, should the link go down and then back up (e.g. remote router is restarted), the MikroTik CHR gives the OpenVPN interface a new ID. After discovery runs again, it picks it up no problem but it ends up duplicating the item and doesn't merge the data. See below:

As you can see (I have had to blank it out) but the interface name is pulled in identically but the Zabbix key changes, which is where the issue lies.

My question, is there any way I can change the discovery rules to identify it by name rather than the interface ID that it is seeing on the CHR? Or is there a better way to be monitoring OpenVPN links? I am open to change strategy.

    Thanks in advance.
