API help basic server status

Hi,

I'm just working on a quick project to set up a simple page which shows the servers current status (and the current status of the mysql database server).

I'm looking at all the API methods and cannot really work out which methods I need to use.

I'm guessing it's something that has to work like this

https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/2.0/manual/appendix/recipes

But I'm not sure how that can be made to work with the API
