Time of item check (as an expression)

Other than fuzzy time (which checks for a difference, but doesn't tell you the difference), is there any function that gives you the time stamp of an item's value?

I tried things like now(item) but they are (probably appropriately) really now.

As an example, if I have a time stamp from a host and want to calculate (as in calculated item) the difference from zabbix time, I don't see a way to get that.

Am I missing something obvious?

That calculated items calculate on a schedule instead of on receipt skews any calculations.
