Setting Event Tag to dynamic value

Event tagging is great, and I have it working with user defined host macro's as expected. My problem is the following scenario.

I'm using nested host groups similar to the following format: <partner>/<region>/<customer>.

I have discovery rules/actions setup to configure each customer and link equipment to the appropriate hostgroup and templates. This works great.

The challenge is that I'd like the triggers for each discovered device (let's say a switch template) to have an event tag named Customer, with the value of the customer name.

Manually adding a macro to each discovered host isn't reasonable (some customers have 200+ discovered devices). Nested linked templates also doesn't make sense as I don't want to manually create/manage a unique template container for each customer that contains a single macro.

Something as simple as having {TRIGGER.HOSTGROUP.NAME} passed down to the event tag value like {ITEM.VALUE} would be great. There's a feature request for Host Group Macro's that would also work if it were implemented. Another possible feature request would be having a discovery rule set a user defined macro on a discovered host.

Is there an easy solution I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated!
