Help! 1 IP, Ping only - Agentless monitoring

Let's face it, the bottom line is that you need to know if a host is UP or Down. That's it - nothing more, nothing less.

I understand the large scale features of Zabbix and it's services as well as the level of granularity it possesses. However, at the end of the day, we as Project System Admins, only care about if a device - be it a simple workstation, switch or router - is UP or not. If it isn't, we want to get notified and have a log kept as to see when the device went down.

Now I am completely new to Zabbix and I haven't figured out really on how to accomplish this. I have 1200 individual IP addresses that are grouped together first by District, then by Boro. I can see how it can be done, however, I am really new to this and having some challenges getting it to work. Once I can get one site going, I know I can do all.

All I would like to accomplish is to ping all of the devices and have Zabbix keep a log of its Up & Down times. That is it!

Hopefully I can group them as they are this way if a district goes down, I would know or if a Boro goes down, I would know.

    Thanks,
    Vincent
