Suggestion - do ping from an agent

Hi all,
I ve been asked a quite simple question by end users - can a zabbix agent do a ping ? - and can not get an absolute answer.

This will be interesting to add this feature in the core agent, for instance to check vpn connection, from a host, without mounting the vpn on a zabbix proxy.
