Hi,
One thing that could be handy is to make possible to "auto group" an host by the result of an item's query.
Let say we have an item that return the host type : Linux/Windows then we could make a sort of automatic system that will put the host in the WINDOWS or in the UNIX group. This will allow easy adminitration for groups of host that will automaticaly change their group if the item change.
For exemple i have virtual servers on three physical box. I have a monitored item giving me the physical server's name for each virtual one. I would like to have a feature that let me group the virtual servers by the host they are on.
As this "virtual group" is dynamic it would follow vserver if they are moved from one host to another. I had this idea of virtual group while looking at the group being made for me. All those group are related to system settings so they could be read in an item's value (like vservers, debian, rehad etc...).
This virtual group possibility could provide a quick way to sort host and make the life of zabbix use easier when you have a good number of hosts. Especialy as zabbix offer a lots of way to filter the result by group. Having an automated way of grouping host by logical and dynamic value would make the life really easy for large install in term of host.
What do you think about this idea ?

Ghislain.
