Hi all, I've done more than my share of google/head-banging on this issue, so I'm asking for some help if you can provide it
We have switches and we would like to monitor certain events in syslog. We already monitor with SNMP and simple ping checks but need certain events fr om syslog. Zabbix agent isn't an option here.
They are all logging to a rsyslog server, 192.168.0.1which is a Zabbix host and has Zabbix agent on it. I setup some nice items and triggers that track switch state via items using the log function (and preprocessing). However I have no way of copying/templating these items/triggers because they refer to hardcoded log files names... routerlogin
Would I be able to create separate hosts to contain these items/triggers that target syslog files on a central syslog server? So I can use a template to copy them and use something like HOST.NAME in the log file path? If these were regular hosts Zabbix agent would obviously make this a non-issue but I can't install it on switches. Thank you!
