Hosts that are monitored by a proxy must have all data provided through that proxy. For a zabbix trap item, Allowed IPs must still be talking to directly to the proxy.
My situation is that the overwhelming majority of devices are managed by proxies. However, various tools exist externally from those proxies that collected data on the hosts and should not have access to the proxy (for instance, an openvas scanner). Additionally, a pinger exists to provide additional information about the external interfaces of devices at a site; in the event the proxy goes down, these continue to have huge value.
But, today, that data has to go to the proxy for it to be associated with a host. I would hope that Allowed IPs would let specific hosts with access to the zabbix server to populate the data for hosts and items which are monitored by a proxy.
