Not sure if you know, but Zabbix was written up in Linux Magazine (http://www.linux-mag.com). Its a great magazine; I've been a subscriber since 2000. Anyways, thats how I found out about Zabbix. The article/tutorial is in the March 2005 issue if i remember correctly.
Also, back issues that are at least a few months old are made available for free online. The march issue should be available in next month or so.
