    Zabbix Active Checks

    Hello,

We have a Zabbix server getting fed from a Zabbix Proxy which is behind a firewall. This proxy is set to accept both active and passive. We have created a template for our servers that have all active checks in them going to the proxy so we don't have to open up incoming connections to the hosts. These checks seem to work and we have items being populated with data however we have the following problems:

    1) When we turn off the agent there doesn't seem to be an alert. Is there no timeout when there is not a response? How does one get a dead agent/system alert from an actively sending server? Do we have to open up a port for a ping or change the agent to allow for passive anyways?

    2) The system in the Configuration -> Hosts still shows a red Zabbix icon even though it is receiving data. When I hover over it it shows that the proxy is still trying to actively connect to the agent even though the agent is setup to do the sending and has passive disabled on it.

Does anyone have any ideas how to properly do the active monitoring while still allowing the server to do passive?

    Thanks
Working...
