Gaps in Data for SNMP Polling When Host Is Unavailable

We are having an issue with the polling of SNMP on our switches.

If there is an issue with a switch, it seems like Zabbix is not able to grab SNMP data, that we understand.

However once data availability comes back, it seems that Zabbix simply drops the data in the graphs rather than showing that data averaged over the time period.

Here is what we would expect (from actual event):

    Here is what Zabbix presents:

Obviously the top one is a more accurate representation regarding what is going on with the switch.

We have SNMP checks going on every 60 seconds. The item is a difference between the last 2 values (Delta - speed per second) Are there any other settings that I can tweak to get this data to represent properly rather than just showing a "dropout"?
