can't create an Item - "No interfaces found"

Within tab: Configuratiion->Hosts->Configuration of Items:

When I select 'Create item' check box (upright corner) for an existing host I see the text entry 'No interface found' next to Host interface. This host already has existing items and its host interface is defined as SNMP.

Anyone know why I would get this message?
