zabbix detecting if an ESXi host is in standby

I'm trying to work out a way to be able to detect if a ESXi host (attached to a vcenter) is in standby with zabbix. Ideally I don't want the alarms to trigger on the host if it's being put in or out of standby as this will happen automatically and without being able to pickup the standby state I'm going to get lots of errors appearing. Currently I'm just using the vmware templates on 5.4 and would like to do it without extra scripting if it's possible. I have a feeling it might be possible with a perfcounter, but so far all efforts haven't yielded anything usable.
