Hi all,
well i decided to have a go at compiling zabbix from source on a fresh ubuntu install, relatively painless and it all seemed to come up.
However my zabbix server is running status is set to no and i cant seem to get it to start.
also on the status of zabbix page i get the following error
fsockopen() [<a href='function.fsockopen'>function.fsockopen</a>]: unable to connect to 192.168.1.100:10051 (Connection refused)[/home/zabbix/public_html/include/config.inc.php:774]

feel i am very close so any help very much appreciated

regards
Dan

ok i fixed it.
a bit silly of me but all i had to do was put the password in the server config file and it all came to life. Maybe i should have checked the log file a bit earlier. Still live and learn and its working now.

I do agree with this statement. I've read a lot of technical documentation and it
left a lot to desired for clarity and accuracy. I'm still very new to the intriguing world of linux and it would have been nice if the authors had written the wiki with the aim of simplicity. Nevertheless, it was a helpful article and is far more clear to me than the manual has been.

As for my problem, it was as simple as entering the password in the zabbix_server.conf file.
