    Could one american do me a favour?

    This is really off-topic!

    I like the iphone 3g, and i'm thinking of buying it.
    The Problem is, in germany it's only sold together with a mobile phone contract (plan?). In the cheapest case, the phone itself costs 170 Euros, the plan 30 Euros each month. it can be terminated after 24 month, so the total costs are 890 Euros.

    I know that it's really much cheaper in america, but there it's only sold to americans:

    To purchase and activate iPhone 3G, you need the following:*
    * Credit card
    * Social security number
    * Valid government-issued photo ID
    * Current wireless account number and password or PIN (if you’re new to AT&T)
    I'd like to know if one american here would be so kind to buy me the phone and send it to me? I heard, you have to sign a contract, too. Which costs would that be with the cheapest? Of course i will pay all costs plus some extra cash!

    best regards,
    Heiner

    In the US we also have to get the contract now with the 3G. The original iPhone did not require a contract but the 3G does. We pay $200 US for the 8GB phone plus a monthly voice and data plan for at least $70 US/month (the plan I have is $90 US\month).

    I will have to say I love my iPhone and its totally worth the money. I had a blackberry for a while but hated the interface and the hardware (size and shape).

      So if i got you right, you actually pay at least 1680 USD (contract for 24 months) + 200 USD for the phone?

      That's more than we do! *confused*

        Welcome to the world of US cell phones!

        Wel also pay to make and receive calls. Send and receive text messages...

        The phones may be cheaper up front, but the plans are higher because the price of the phone subsidized by the carrier.

        Plus are you sure the 3G phone from the US would work there? We're on completely different frequencies here.

            Perhaps, but I wouldn't count on it. Every time I think I've found an SMS solution for my Linux box I notice the phone runs on 900MHz, not 850. GRR!!!
