    Zabbix 2.4 for Ubuntu 12.04

    Hi everyone
after releasing of version 2.4, on 11th September, So far there is no release for upgrading 2.2 to 2.4 in Ubuntu 12.04.
for now, according to official repo of zabbix,(http://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/2.4/ubuntu/dists/)
version 2.4, Only is available for trusty distro of Ubuntu.
when the upgrade will be available for precise distro?
is there another way to upgrade to 2.4 in 12.04?
at all, do you have any plan for releasing upgrade for 12.04?

Ubuntu 12.04 is my zabbix platform, too.
After the release of Zabbix 2.4 I was somewhat disappointed that I coldn´t find the binaries for 12.04, but only for 14.4.

Will the update as binaries be available for 12.04 after all?

Thx for reply and best regards
    Claudio

      I'm upping this.
We're still on 12.04 and we're not planning to upgrade to 14.04 yet (it's an LTS, after all).
      Have you got any ETA?

      Thanks

today I noticed new release as 2.4.1 on official Zabbix repo site (http://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/2.4/ubuntu/dists/)
fortunately there are also updated packages for Ubuntu precise (release date on 12th october) to 2.4.1
updated to 2.4.1, and everything is working good for now!
          thanks Zabbix team

            Hello all,

I can confirm this - just updated an hour ago via dpkg -i *.deb from 2.2.6 and everything went great (as usual).

Thanx a lot Zabbix team - you´re great!

                how to upgrade from packages

                Hi samhast,

if you use Ubuntu (debian is similar IMHO) on hardware, then you should at least backup your DB. If your OS runs on a hypervisor (as it is the case in my company) then a snapshot with memory will do it.

Then download the packages according to the zabbix packages already installed into a separate directory (thus you can use wildcard with installation ):

                Code:
aptitude search zabbix | grep ^i
If this command returns nothing then your zabbix may have been installed from source....and this very little howto is no longer valid for you.

If the command above returns hits then change into your directory with the downloaded packages and install them:

                Code:
                dpkg -i *.deb
This post certainly does not cover each and every setup but it worked for me.

                BR Claudio

What for sort of information is it that you should get when you run this?

                  I get this information

                  Code:
                  i zabbix-agent - network monitoring solution - agent
                  i zabbix-frontend-php - network monitoring solution - PHP front-en
                  i zabbix-server-mysql - network monitoring solution - server (usin
But when i try to run the other command you listed i get

                  Code:
dpkg: error processing archive *.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
                  Errors were encountered while processing:
                   *.deb
What should i do? I try to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.4 on Ubuntu 14.04

the command aptitude search zabbix | grep ^i tells you which zabbix packages are installed on your server. This may help you in deciding, which packages you should download. It doesn´t tell you anything about the installed versions. For version info please check aptitude show <packagename>.

The update binaries (*.deb files) can be found @ http://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/2.4/ub...main/z/zabbix/ . There you can download the binaries for your architecture.

I must admit that this post is intended for ubuntu 12.04 servers with sth. like Zabbix 2.2.x installed from binaries available @ zabbix website and not the 1.8 tree from Ubuntu repos.

When I see your output from dpkg:
dpkg: error processing archive *.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
                    Errors were encountered while processing:
                    *.deb
then I think that something is wrong with
                    • your binary download directory
                    • the binaries

How I upgraded from version 2.0 to 2.4 on Ubuntu 12:

1). add additional file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/.. with:
                      deb http://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/2.4/ubuntu precise main

                      2). Installed additional packages:
                      apt-get install libltd17 libodbc1 unixodbc

3). After this 2.4 version of Zabbix could be installed by:
                      apt-get upgrade

This also will upgrade the database automatically.
