Zabbix Agent Question

is Agent2 the replacement for agentd ?

We are trying to decide if agent2 is the replacement for agentd going forward.

There is no info about replacing classic agent. Yes, agent2 is fancier, allows a bit more things, but if all you need is provided by classic agent, then you can just continue with that also.
