Graduate student looking for help

Hello all,
Longtime Zabbix user here. I started deploying Zabbix about 10 years ago and have never looked back. I had to do my research initially to determine what product I wanted to use, and that's the reason for this post.

As a grad student at Univ Wisconsin Stout, I need to provide a simple comparison of the process used by 2 different companies when doing "something". I chose performance monitoring as it's something I do professionally.

If you have the time to contribute it would be greatly appreciated. Questions include:

What need were you looking to fill that led you to Zabbix?
What criteria was needed that Zabbix met?
How did you implement it and why?
What did you need/want to collect?
Did you deploy clients, snmp, other?
Did you run into any issues?
Do you run it on Linux and why?

The questions would be in line with the ones above.

What need were you looking to fill that led you to Zabbix?
NMS wiht more than 30 days os history and alerts.

What criteria was needed that Zabbix met?
LDAP login, graphics and maps.

How did you implement it and why?
First was created a POC to compare Zabbix, Centreon and Nagios, after the comparison web decide for Zabbix

What did you need/want to collect?
Mainly jmx, webservice and linux service status data

Did you deploy clients, snmp, other?
Just zabbix agent.

Did you run into any issues?
WIth collecting jmx from jboss

Do you run it on Linux and why?
The team dominates more linux than other operating system
