    Automatically subrscribe users to threads

    Howdy --

It would probably be a good idea to set the forum default user up to automatically subscribe to threads they create or participate in. You should be able to setup all users with the "instant email notification" option. You can also set it for existing users. Users can turn it off per thread or profile wide if they'd like.

I imagine that when a question doesn't get answered for a few days or weeks, a new user likely gives up on finding a solution.

Also, If a user reads a response to their thread, and responds in a short amount of time after someone answered their question, it seems more likely to generate a useful conversation, while its fresh on everyones mind.

    Just my $.02

Thanks for this suggestion. I agree. I changed this setting for new users, unfortunately I have no idea how to perform a mass-update for existing users. Can you help?

I'm not sure about vbulletin, but with SMF (formerly yabbse), you can create a settings template, and then there is an option to apply that template to all users .

That being said, I am a member of another vbulletin board, and I know it can be done, because they applied that same setting to my 4 year old account a year or so ago.

If nothing else, it could be as simple as an update to the right table.
