This document contains the release notes for ZABBIX version
1.1beta5. The following sections describe the release in
detail and provide late-breaking or other information that
supplements the main documentation.
What's New
:: Templating
Templating has been fixed. Definition of items, triggers and
graphs is propagated to linked hosts.
:: New concept of definition of trigger actions
The new concept allows much more flexible definition of
trigger actions in one screen. Finally!
:: New item type: Unsigned Integer 64bit
The new type can be used for storage of integer data, such
as SNMP counters, disk spaces, etc. No loss of data
precision anymore. Note that the data will be stored in new
table 'history_uint'.
:: New trigger function: regexp()
The function allows to check if a value matches given Posix
regular expression. It works for items having type String or
Log.
:: New macro for actions: {TRIGGER.NAME}
The macro explodes to trigger name (description). The macro
is very useful for action's message and subject. You may
want to use it in combination with {STATUS}.
:: Calculated minimum Y in graphs
Minimum value of Y axis will be calculated by default.
:: Configurable number of plain text elements for screens
If not set, 25 plain text values will be displayed.
:: Chinese translation for ZABBIX GUI
German and other translations have been improved and
updated.
:: Fixes
* Fixed span handling for screens.
* Fixed typo in tr_comments.php.
* Currently unused escalations removed from GUI.
* Fixed processing of simple checks.
* Fixed configuration and making issues.
* Fixed processing of icmpping and icmppingsec.
* Fixed incorrect handling of retrieved values in zabbix_get.
* Fixed processing of Delta.
* Minor fixes for SNMP handling.
* Function 'str' will work for LOG files.
* English translation will be used if cannot find a
phrase in local language.
* Misc fixes for ZABBIX GUI.
* Other fixes.
What's next
ZABBIX 1.1beta6 will introduce remote execution of commands.
Installation and Upgrade Notes
Installation
See the Installation Guide
http://www.zabbix.com/manual/v1.1/install.php for full
details.
Upgrade
In order to upgrade from previous release, execution of
database patches required. See Upgrade Guide
http://www.zabbix.com/manual/v1.1/config_upgrading.php for
full details on upgrade procedure.
Pay special attention to actions. Check what actions are
defined after applying database upgrade patch.
Pre-release testing
ZABBIX Server
ZABBIX Server has been compiled and tested on the following
platforms: Ubuntu Linux, AMD64, kernel 2.6.11
ZABBIX Agents
ZABBIX Agents have been compiled and tested on the following
platforms:
* AIX 5.2
* FreeBSD 4.11, 5.4
* HP-UX 11.00
* Linux 2.6.11 (Ubuntu)
* NetBSD 2.0
* OS/X 10.2
* Solaris 5.9
* Tru64 5.1B
Note that agents are available pre-compiled from
http://www.zabbix.com/download.php. The agents are compatible with
ZABBIX v1.0 and all releases in 1.1 series.
Use in production environments
ZABBIX 1.1beta5 is BETA software, therefore we cannot
recommend it for immediate use in production. Although
tested throughout our release cycle, this release introduces
any changes and does not have the benefit of use in
production environments that ZABBIX v1.0 has and therefore
should be treated with the same level of caution as a new
product.
