    Graphical XML generator

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has looked at Firescope's workbench product. Essentially Firescope is Zabbix modified and the workbench program they have is used to create templates or items for a hosts. In this I am just curious. I use it as quick SNMP grabbing tool to plan out but that's it.

Written in Java, yet requires XP? Excellent stuff.

      Really?

My reason for bringing this program up was primarily as example. Also, firescope created this tool for their modified zabbix to create quick templates. Why can't we run with this idea. And yes its java and runs only windows but its using nmap and netsnmp tools to do all of its work. Last I checked nmap and snmp-lib run in linux or bsd. Its a bit more complex than that but its an idea. That using java with netsnmp and nmap could be useful for the project?

Yes, I've nothing against the idea, just the implementation :-) There are already XML template generators that walk an agent and spit out XML; see here:

I'd love to try any new XML generator, so long as there's a command-line or web UI version that can be run from the server itself. Java seems like overkill for what could easily be done with a scripting language, but hey, whatever scratches your itch!
