Zabbix Presentation - June 18th, 2009 - Bay Area (Sunnyvale, CA)

I'm doing a presentation about Zabbix on Thursday, June 18th. It's at the BayLISA group in Sunnyvale, CA. (baylisa.org) I believe you have to be a member of BayLISA. (There is another presentation planned for SVLUG in Sept)

I will cover beginner to advanced Zabbix topics and since I haven't finished the presentation yet, I'm not sure how much expert level discussion there will be. At this point I'm expecting expert topics to be brief, by questions, or offline.

If you plan on attending and want something specific to be covered, let me know. The presentation is planned to be one hour.

It went well. I ended up being the peanut gallery which was helpful and not mocking, like they normally do. :-) It was a very technical audience and many of the questions were pretty good and challenging. I think Brendon can keep his title for now... ;-)

Thanks for showing up! It was great meeting you finally. We taught eachother a few things and did an excellent job with Q&A. They even said the presentation was better than most!

I was actually surprised about how much I don't know. One question was asked, which I think the answer is Yes, but I'm not sure. Can you:

agent -> proxy -> proxy -> node

?

The whole thing was about 2 hours and I didn't expect to get into as much detail as we did. Between netlsonab and I, we had 99% of the answers nailed. I did find at least one feature I didn't know about as well. Some notes on what material and preparation could be used for a VERY long Zabbix discussion:

- How to make maps
- IT Services/SLAs
- Log file monitoring
- Installation gotchas
- Where an installation could go wrong
- Zabbix best practices
- MySQL tuning
- How the default templates default should be (IMHO)
- JasperSoft iReports
- SQLite scalability

Cant wait to see what was shown/discussed, be nice to see people dicussing how it all goes in the real world, and ask question easier than on the forums.
