As it is very well known, Zabbix severely lacks in the area of event notification control. There is no easy way to schedule events, introduce notification delays, aggregate alarms and, most importantly, schedule maintenance downtimes.
For that reason, In my set up I delegated event notifications to an external script. The attached tarball contains the two scripts that make up the system. A basic explanation as to their function is in the comments. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask. You can (and should) modify the scripts in any fashion you desire. If you have any suggestions or bug reports please let me know.
