but the first post actually gives instructions on how mibs should be added - see part starting with "Edit the file /etc/snmp/snmp.conf"

did you do that for all involved mibs ?
I thought I had, but it seems I have edited the incorrect file. Trying to sort it out today. Thanks for the suggestion, I thought it was going to be something small like that, but sometimes just get so caught up in it that I forget to look at the basics again.

Apologies for the late response, been quite hectic here.

Ok, I have tried every which way possible to edit the snmpd.conf file, but it doesn't want to work. The only error I can see is the following

/etc/snmp/snmpd.conf: line 1: Warning: Unknown token: mibs

Would it be possible for you to post an extract from your snmpd.conf file?

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Server

      ---------------------
Edit : Ok, as I posted that I thought let me make a file called snmp.conf instead of snmpd.conf

It seems to be working now, but, my question now is, what is the difference between the two? I was confused as I thought Ubuntu's version of snmp.conf is just snmpd.conf, but it seems they are two completely seperate pieces of SNMP

first, if you read the very first post carefully, it says "snmp.conf"
second, snmp.conf is for client utility configuration (snmpget, snmpwalk, snmptranslate etc), snmpd.conf is for, well, snmpd configuration - that would be the snmp daemon. there's also snmptrapd.conf, by the way - i'll leave it's purpose as an exercise

I've figured out snmptrapd.conf and gotten that working, don't know why I didn't think of it earlier that its 2 seperate files.

But thanks for your assistance dude, very much appreciated!! Getting the data, now time to setup some triggers. I think I understand what is listed in the first post about it.

Once again, thanks for the assistance

            snmptraphandler.pl and snmpd.conf

Hi - can you provide an example for the "mibs +" line(s) you add to snmpd.conf?
I am referring to the snmptraphandler note:

Edit the file /etc/snmp/snmp.conf and add there a line

            mibs +MIB_MODULE_NAME

The new snmptraphandler is working great! I am now trying to find the best way to format the traps and trap variables.

            Thanks.

My bad - I should've read your posts more carefully as the answer is there. Ignore my question. Thanks!

                Code:

Thank you! I had created a new line for each MIB, so it's helpful to see your example.
