    Zabbix RPMs/repo refreshed for 1.8.5 and 1.9.3

    Hi folks

I've refreshed the Zabbix RPM packages I've built in the past, and because I'm all geeked out about Zabbix having support for polling the SNMP ifDescr in the upcoming Zabbix 2.0 I built packages for Zabbix 1.9.3 as well (which includes this support)

http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...rhart:/zabbix/ is where you can get Zabbix 1.8.5 packages for CentOS and RHEL 5/6, and

http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...:/zabbix-beta/ is where you can get RPMs for Zabbix 1.9.3 (be aware Zabbix 1.9.3 is considered an ALPHA release - just for taking a sneek peek, not for production)

You can easily add the zabbix or zabbix beta repo to CentOS or RHEL by doing something similar to this:

    Code:
    cd /etc/yum.repos.d
    wget http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ericgearhart:/zabbix/CentOS_CentOS-5/home:ericgearhart:zabbix.repo
    yum update
...after doing that, 'yum install zabbix' should work. For the beta repo, just add -beta after zabbix in that URL.

This was all made possible by Andrew Farley's specfile he created a while back, with a helpful tweak to the spec file to resolve a minor issue with Andrew's 'install' command (see http://backedbyapenguin.wordpress.co...-zabbix-1-8-5/ for details)

    Hi Eric,

I am using your repo and was very happy with it... until your last update, lol.
It seems that your last update for zabbix-agent deletes the user zabbix ?
I had to recreate it on all servers...

    Thank you

D'oh! I'll try to take a look at what the upgrade is doing to break the 'zabbix' user... I have a CentOS VM built so I can install the 1.8.1 packages and try upgrading to 1.8.5. I had only tried installing 1.8.5 on a fresh install of CentOS, didn't test upgrade functionality.

Sorry! Obviously I need a better Q/A department

Can we get builds with IPMI enabled ?

I don't understand why it's not enabled in normal builds.

          Fixes

I'm going to rebuild the zabbix 1.8.9 RPM that I just posted, and try to enable ipmi. Also I'll take out the %postun section from the RPM specfile that deletes the zabbix user... in future upgrades that should fix the problem where the zabbix user is deleted.

Apparently NOT removing the user when an RPM is uninstalled is a good practice anyway... see this thread for gory details:

Sounds great ! I'll wait for your updated version that doesn't delete the user zabbix to enable your repo again, then.
I don't really feel for fixing dozens of servers for now

              Thank you !

I now have builds of Zabbix beta (1.9.8) that have IPMI enabled... basically just adding "BuildRequires OpenIPMI" and "--with-openipmi" to the spec did the trick.
