    Resolved

    Raymond,

I have been able to get that test trigger to work properly.

When creating I didn't associate it with the item correctly.

    I have a second question..

I have some windows servers with multiple cores. Is there a way to have zabbix monitor the utilization of the total instead of 1 or 2 cores only.

      Load Average

Ballscout, In unix, the "Load Average" is an overall summation of load across all CPUs. There are several ways to get it. One easy way is the "uptime" commmand.

      uptime
      1:03pm up 20 day(s), 19:59, 18 users, load average: 0.12, 0.24, 0.29

      You might like to try:

      uptime |awk '{print $8}'

which gives you just the load average over the last minute. Is that what you want?

WHat they are looking for is to monitor total CPU utilization across all cpu's with a trigger that will send notification if that utilization goes above say 80%.They also want the graph created so that there is a visual they can go back and look at if they are notified.

I was looking through some documentation and saw

        system.cpu.util[<cpu>,<type>,<mode>]

it said that is the cpu was not specified all would be used. So if that means it is monitoring all the cpu's then it seems like what I am looking for.

so as an item i did

        system.cpu.util[]

and as the trigger i did

        {hostname:system.cpu.util[1,,].last(0)}>80

I ran a load test on the machine and it sent a notification when the stress went over 80% and sent an ok when he went under 80%.

I guess what I need to know is , does this go across all cpu's

in the case of the machine I was testing it was dual but other machnies are quad and more

        Thanks again

          Ballscout,

Sorry for the late reply. I'm happy you got the test trigger working :-)

The CPU trigger that you build should indeed monitor all cores if you don't explicitly specify one.

          Hth,
          With kind regards,

          Raymond

            Zabbix 2.0 materials

            Hi all,

I'm slowly gathering Zabbix 2.0 materials on http://www.zbxtutorials.org
Currently there is a Lab setup guide and an explanation of the basic terminology.
More labs and reading will follow!

If anyone is interested in submitting a tutorial, please let me know
            With kind regards,

            Raymond

              Is the lab still available?

I am having trouble with the virtual lib, I am running it on my mac, I already set port-forward for it, but I cannot see anything when I log in http:/127.0.0.1:8010/zabbix

                    Problems with the links provided

True, links are not working. Is there any mirror for this material?

                    Best Regards!

All the links are still 404 - broken!

Shame - Zabbix looks like it could be useful, but without a tutorial to get a beginner like me started on th elearning curve, I'm afraid it's 'Hello and goodbye' to Zabbix!

you can always try the quickstart at https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...ual/quickstart

also a bit outdated by now, but should still be usable - "getting started with zabbix" chapter : http://www.packtpub.com/sites/defaul...pleChapter.pdf
                        Zabbix 3.0 Network Monitoring book
